Hardware based social innovators are invited to apply to the innovation showcase (ISHOW), a global competition for hardware led innovation by the American Society for Mechanical Engineers. It is open to innovators from all countries who couple physical products that will have social impact with sustainable business model . It however, takes place is select venues in different regions, and those who wish to take part should apply to the nearest competition. For East Africa, it is Nairobi. The Nairobi competition takes place on 25th of March. The organizers cater for the finalists’ costs of travelling to the pitching and networking sessions.
Applications are open to both individuals and organisations. To take part, you need to have an existing prototype, be interested in receiving financing, technical support and assistance to take the product to market. There is $500, 000 up for grabs. It will be shared globally by nine winners. Three winners in Nairobi will receive $30, 000 in cash, an ASME ISHOW Hardware Review, and become part of a global network of engineering experts.
